“The Misfit of Demon King Academy” is a popular anime from the summer of 2020 that fans are always excited to watch. This anime is about Anos Voldigoad, the Demon King of Tyranny, who has defeated countless enemies and wars, including humans, spirits, and gods. Tired of all the fighting, he chooses to be reborn, hoping for a more peaceful world.
Fast forward two thousand years, and Anos is born again as the son of Gusta and Izabella. But he realizes the world has become too peaceful, and his descendants are weak.
Based on a light novel by Shu & Kayaharuka, “Maou Gakuin no Futekigousha” also has a manga version. This anime is excellent if you enjoy stories about magic, powerful characters, and cute female characters. Also, with the longest isekai titles.”(Maō Gakuin no Futekigōsha ~Shijō Saikyō no Maō no Shiso, Tensei Shite Shison-tachi no Gakkō e Kayou~)”
If you’ve already watched it and want something similar, otakukan has prepared a list of anime recommendations.
1. The Irregular at Magic High School
“Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei” is about two siblings, Shiba Tatsuya and Shiba Miyuki, who joined a middle school. After the entrance exam, Miyuki did well and got into the advanced class known as Blooms. On the other hand, Tatsuya ends up in the regular class called Weed.
Even though Tatsuya’s test scores and class assignments suggest he’s not great, he knows a lot about technology, has unique fighting skills, and is skilled in magic. So, many students are surprised by how capable he is.
The similarity between “Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei” and “Maou Gakuin no Futekigousha” is in their main characters. Anos and Tatsuya are both super powerful, calm, and always profound. They also have a dry sense of humor and are surrounded by beautiful women.
Both anime are set in magical schools where students are divided into high-ranking and lower-ranking classes based on uniform color. If you are into harem-type anime, you can check out our Best Action Harem Anime article.
2. How Not to Summon a Demon Lord
“Isekai Maou to Shoukan Shoujo no Dorei Majutsu” is about a young gamer named Takuma Sakamoto. In the game world, he goes by Diablo, the Demon King. But one day, while playing, he suddenly finds himself in a fantasy world looking like Diablo. It’s on one of the lists for anime with a demon king.
Like “Maou Gakuin no Futekigousha,” this anime features a solid main character, a demon lord with two girls as part of his harem. This anime is different because it focuses more on the ecchi side, while “Maou Gakuin no Futekigousha” is more about action and magic.
3. The Devil is a Part-Timer!
“Hataraku Maou-Sama!” begins with the Demon King trying to take over a land called Ente Isla with his demon army. However, the Hero Emilia and her group stop his plans, and he fled to Earth through a portal. His loyal general Alsiel joins him. Stranded in Tokyo, they promise to return and conquer Ente Isla if they can find a way.
Stuck in a world without magic, the Demon Lord adopts the name Sadao Maou and gets a job as a cashier at a fast-food place called MgRonalds to survive.
Maou is quite like Anos. They both are super powerful Demon Lords from different worlds. But while Anos had a royal life, Maou faced financial struggles and had to work in a restaurant to make ends meet.
4. Wise Man’s Grandchild
In the Earlshide Kingdom, a hero named Merlin Walford is admired for his strength and accomplishments. But Merlin wants a quieter life, so he lives in a remote forest and cares for the orphans he rescues. One of them is Shin, a guy from Japan who got reborn into a fantasy world but remembers his old life.
As time passes, Shin grows up with incredible magic and fighting skills. But he’s not so good with everyday things like social stuff and responsibility.
Shin from “Kenja no Mago” and Anos are powerful characters with black hair and fantastic magic. The two shows are similar in genre: school, romance, comedy, action, and adventure.
5. Demon Lord, Retry!
“Maou-sama, Retry!” is about a guy named Oono Akira who works as a game developer. He’s been making online games for fifteen years. One day, he decides to close down his game server for good. But something strange happens: when it’s midnight, he gets transported to another world. And he’s in the body of Hakuto Kunai, one of the characters from his game.
“Maou-sama, Retry!” and “Maou Gakuin no Futekigousha” have the main character as a Demon King. They’re both cool and collected, plus they have a group of people around them. But there’s a little difference: Oono is more about building things up than conquering.
6. Overlord
“In the world of YGGDRASIL games, after many years of glory, the time has come for the servers to shut down. But Momonga, a powerful magic user and leader of the Ainz Ooal Gown Guild, decided to stay in the game until the end.
To his surprise, when midnight arrived, Momonga didn’t get logged out as usual. Instead, the game’s non-player characters (NPCs) suddenly become sentient and develop their personalities. Faced with this strange situation, Momonga instructed the NPCs to explore this new world.
“Overlord” and “Maou Gakuin no Futekigousha” share strong main characters with much power. Momonga and Anos are skilled in magic and can easily cast powerful spells.”
7. The Daily Life of the Immortal King
The story of “Xian Wang de Richang Shenghuo” revolves around a guy named Wang Ling. When he was six, he defeated the powerful demon king Tentian Clam. Even though he had incredible strength, Wang Ling chose to hide it and lead an ordinary high school life. He didn’t care much about money, magic tools, or becoming famous.
Wang Ling and Anos share a lot of similarities. Both characters have overwhelming power that could quickly bring down the world. Plus, both exist in a world where magic is a big part of things.
