Wow, it’s hard to believe that it’s been almost three years since the fantasy adult animated series “Blood of Zeus” first landed on Netflix in October 2020. It does feel like a lifetime ago! But after receiving a well-deserved renewal, the show is finally gearing up to make its highly anticipated return to Netflix worldwide.

Created by the talented brothers Charley and Vlas Parlapanides, “Blood of Zeus” is an epic action series set in ancient Greece. Drawing inspiration from Greek mythology, the show’s gripping plot follows the journey of Heron, a young man who discovers his divine lineage as the son of Zeus and finds himself tasked with the monumental responsibility of saving the world from a formidable demonic army.

In recent years, the ancient Greek setting has experienced a surge in popularity, thanks in part to critically acclaimed video games like “God of War” and “Hades,” as well as acclaimed series and movies such as the “Percy Jackson” franchise on Disney+ and Netflix’s upcoming “Kaos” series.

This overwhelming success ultimately led to the show being granted a two-season renewal in December 2020, much to the delight of its dedicated fanbase.

What to expect from Blood of Zeus season 2

One of the most intriguing cliffhangers involved Seraphim’s predicament in the Underworld. Faced with an agonizing choice, Hades offered Seraphim a way out of his punishment, but at the cost of servitude. While forced to submit initially, it’s clear that the cunning Seraphim will undoubtedly seek opportunities to regain control and break free from Hades’ influence.

However, Hades himself seems to have ulterior motives, as he likely plans to use Seraphim as a pawn in his own hidden agenda. This spells potential danger not only for the protagonist, Heron, but also for the entire pantheon of Olympian gods.

Speaking of Heron, the first season’s finale saw Zeus make the ultimate sacrifice to protect Hera, leaving the Olympian gods without a clear ruler. Having displayed Zeus-like powers in his epic battle against Seraphim, Heron could potentially ascend to become the new leader of the gods, setting the stage for an exciting power dynamic in the upcoming season.

The official synopsis for the second season is as follows:

“Following Zeus’ demise, a power vacuum emerges amongst the gods, leaving Heron, Zeus’ demigod son, struggling to find his place. He is racked with loss and hears a mysterious refrain in his dreams, prodding him to save his brother, Seraphim, who is suffering the terrors of the Underworld. Unbeknownst to Heron, Hades is trying to enlist Seraphim to help him secure Zeus’ vacant throne and save his family from their long standing suffering.”

When will Blood of Zeus be released on Netflix?

Netflix has made a few changes to the release date of Blood of Zeus. Initially set for May 15th, 2024, the date was shifted to May 9th, then to May 10th, 2024. So, to confirm, the second season will premiere on Friday, May 10th, 2024.

Why the delays? Animation is the culprit! Creating an animated series is time-consuming, requiring significant labor and attention to detail. Blood of Zeus is just one of many projects that Powerhouse Animation Studio is handling, and they’re also working on several other shows for Netflix. With so much on their plate, it’s understandable that the release schedule may have been affected.
