For those who need a refresher, Blue Lock took the anime world by storm with its first 24-episode season in Fall 2022. The intense soccer drama about 300 high schoolers competing to become Japan’s next big striker ended up winning Sports Anime of the Year and ranking among the season’s top shows.

But the excitement doesn’t stop there! Before Season 2 arrives, Blue Lock is also getting a theatrical anime movie titled “Episode Nagi,” set to hit Japanese theaters on June 28, 2024. The film will be animated by the same studio, 8bit, that worked on Season 1.

The Blue Lock franchise is based on the popular manga series written by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and illustrated by Nomura, which has been running in Weekly Shonen Magazine since 2018. The first season was a hit with its intense narrative, slick animation, and talented staff like director Tetsuaki Watanabe and writer Taku Kishimoto.

According to Crunchyroll, who streamed Season 1 with English subs, the story follows “Japan’s desire for World Cup glory” as 300 talented strikers are pitted against each other in an intense training program, with only one emerging victorious.
