Crunchyroll has announced an exciting new app that will allow fans to read popular manga titles in digital format. The service, named Crunchyroll Manga, is set to launch in 2025, initially in the United States and Canada, with plans to expand to other regions later.
The app aims to bring together top publications from major publishers into a single subscription service, although specific titles included at launch have yet to be revealed.
According to Crunchyroll President Rahul Purini, access to the platform will require a new premium subscription tier and will initially be available as an app for Android and iOS devices. While there are plans to eventually make the platform accessible via web browsers, this feature will come at a later stage.
Speaking at CES 2025, Purini expressed optimism about the app, promising a comprehensive service designed to meet the needs of manga fans by providing access to some of today’s most popular series.
Fans can look forward to more details on Crunchyroll Manga as the launch date approaches.
“Crunchyroll Manga will be the first online manga app that brings the catalog of renowned producers, offering fans unprecedented access to the visionary work that inspires the anime we love,” says Rahul Purini.
Adding services to Crunchyroll
Crunchyroll’s vision for the new digital manga app is to enhance the overall user experience by integrating it with the company’s existing offerings. According to Crunchyroll President Rahul Purini, the app will complement the anime streaming service and the mobile gaming platform, creating a broader ecosystem of entertainment options for fans.
This initiative aims to provide a seamless experience where users can enjoy anime, games, and now manga all in one place, enriching the variety of content available through Crunchyroll’s platform.
“As we strengthen partnerships in this exciting new adventure, we aim to add more value to the Crunchyroll subscription, complementing our vast anime library, the Crunchyroll Game Vault and our extensive selection of Crunchyroll Store products.”
Purini also provides data, revealing that they target a market looking for this type of content.
“Research shows that almost 70% of anime fans read manga in digital format at least once a month, showing an immense demand for this medium. Crunchyroll Manga will not only meet the growing interest, but will fuel the continued increase in global popularity of anime and manga,” says the executive.
It is essential to highlight that although the Manga Plus application already exists, it is limited to content from the publisher Shueisha – which leaves several other stories off the platform.
