On Thursday, December 5, Crunchyroll hosted its announcement panel at CCXP 2024, unveiling exciting news for anime fans. Key highlights included details about the upcoming Anime Awards 2025.
Crunchyroll also announced the release of the highly anticipated film Attack on Titan: The Last Attack in other regions and shared early details about several upcoming anime projects set to debut on its streaming platform. Fans can look forward to a packed lineup of new and engaging content.
Pabllo Vittar at the Anime Awards 2025
Crunchyroll revealed exciting updates for the Anime Awards 2025, including the debut of Pabllo Vittar as the event’s presenter. In addition to the Brazilian singer and drag icon, the ceremony will feature Kenichiro Yoshida, President and CEO of Sony Group Corporation, providing commentary, along with hosts Sally Amaki and Jon Kabir.
The awards ceremony will take place in Tokyo, Japan, on May 25, 2025, continuing the tradition from 2024. This year’s event will include 32 categories, with fans able to vote starting April 3, 2025. New categories such as Best Isekai, Best Background Art, and Best Voice Performance (Hindi) will also be introduced.
A key change for this edition is the eligibility period, now spanning from January 1 to December 31, allowing for a more inclusive consideration of anime released at the end of the year. Fans can look forward to a fresh and expanded celebration of the anime industry.
Attack on Titan movie
During the event, Crunchyroll announced its new partnership with Sony Pictures to distribute the film Attack on Titan: The Last Attack in cinemas.
The film premiered in Japan on November 8, 2024, and will now go to other territories for the first time. Designed as a cinematic experience for anime fans, Attack on Titan: The Last Attack combines the final two episodes of the acclaimed anime series: The Final Chapters Special 1 and 2. These episodes mark the conclusion of Eren Jaeger’s journey in a world plagued by the ongoing battle between humans and the terrifying Titans, giant creatures that threaten humanity’s survival.
Trailer for new MAPPA anime
During the CCXP 2024 announcement panel, studio MAPPA revealed the first trailer for its upcoming anime, Zenshu. The series will follow Natsuko Hirose, a talented young animator who quickly rises to the position of director. However, she faces a unique challenge when tasked with directing a romantic comedy about “first love”—a theme she struggles with, as she has never experienced love herself.
Zenshu is set to premiere on streaming platforms in January 2025.
MAPPA, one of the leading studios in the anime industry, has already been behind over 50 major animation projects. Some of their most popular works include Jujutsu Kaisen, Attack on Titan, and Chainsaw Man. Fans are eagerly anticipating this new addition to their impressive portfolio.
The third season of Fire Force gets a trailer.
Crunchyroll unveiled a new trailer for the upcoming Fire Force season. The first announcement was at the Anime Expo in July, and the new episodes will be split into two parts, with the first arriving in April 2025 and the second in January 2026.
The series will be available on streaming platforms simultaneously and airing in Japan next year.
Fire Force follows Shinra Kusakabe and his fellow firefighters, who join a special brigade battling the Infernals—flaming demons that threaten to destroy the city. The action-packed series continues to build on its intense battles and the mysteries surrounding these supernatural threats.
