Welcome, fellow fire soldiers! If you want to watch the fiery world of Fire Force properly, you may wonder what order you should watch the anime in to get the best experience. With two seasons of the main series, a film, and even some spinoff stories, it can get somewhat confusing to navigate as a new viewer.
In this post, I’ll break down the ideal Fire Force watch order, including whether to take in the anime chronologically or in release order. There are good arguments, some optional OVA specials, and side stories to factor in. I aim to provide an easy-to-follow viewing guide so you don’t miss any key events or in-jokes as you take in this thrilling supernatural tale.
Fire Force Watch Order
1. Fire Force Season 1 (24 episodes)
- Release Date: July 5, 2019 – September 27, 2019
Fire Force season 1 introduces us to the world of Tokyo in the distant future, where some people have spontaneously developed the ability to control and manipulate fire. They become known as “Infernals” – dangerous beings that can turn into destructive flames and go on rampages.
Special firefighting teams trained to deal with Infernals are formed to combat the Infernal threat and investigate its source. One such crew is Special Fire Force Company 8. The story follows recruit Shinra, who becomes Company 8’s first “Devil’s Footprint” user in charge of tackling Infernals up close with his firefighting skills.
Shinra and his colleagues work to quell incidents around the city while striving to uncover the truth behind the Infernals’ origins and abilities. This leads them to confront a mysterious doomsday cult of pyrokinetics, which may be linked to the phenomenon. Clues emerge involving Shinra’s past as well – he gained his powers in a traumatic childhood incident but has no memory of why he didn’t become an Infernal then.
2. Fire Force Season 2 (24 episodes)
- Release Date: July 3, 2020 – September 25, 2020
Shinra and Company 8 continue investigating the Infernal threat in the second season. New allies join them, like the mysterious Giovanni and the return of mad scientist Dr. Giovanni. Shinra discovers more clues about the Evangelist behind the doomsday group’s plans, but the path leads back to Asakusa city from his traumatic past.
Shinra confronts his mother – thought dead from that fateful incident 8 years ago – but she is revealed to be the Evangelist herself. Further revelations show that Evangelists aim to cleanse the world through fire and rebirth. She tries triggering cataclysmic explosions from an Infernal Shinra battled before.
Battling inward doubts even as Company 8 races to stop Evangelist’s schemes, Shinra unlocks more repressed memories that hold secrets about his family’s murder, the origin of his Infernal-like powers, and Grace – an enigmatic figure who rescued Shinra as a child.
The season builds to a showdown where Shinra defeats Evangelist. But the end hints the Asakusa case may still not be fully closed even as life goes on for Company 8 members …for now.
