September is one of the busiest months for gamers because it brings some highly anticipated titles for 2023. We’ve got a space epic called Starfield from Bethesda, the return of the Mortal Kombat franchise, and the latest installment of FIFA, now known as EA Sports FC.

Let’s take a closer look at the top game releases for September:

September starts with Bethesda’s monumental release, Starfield, marking their first new franchise in 25 years. With a dedicated fan base even before its launch, this game continues Bethesda’s legacy of crafting epic adventures, previously seen in iconic series like Fallout and The Elder Scrolls. However, Starfield takes you beyond earthly realms, allowing players to make choices, design their spacecraft, and explore the cosmos.

The storyline merely serves as a loose guide, allowing players to carve their unique path in a vast universe housing over 1,000 planets, meticulously handcrafted by developers and dynamically generated. This is only the beginning of a saga poised to become the space gaming equivalent of Skyrim.

Starfield arrives on September 6th for PC and Xbox Series X|S. However, anyone who buys the game’s special edition will play on the 1st.

NBA 2K24

NBA 2K24, the beloved basketball video game, is back with its annual edition. Once again, it pays tribute to the legendary Kobe Bryant on the cover. This game is a celebration of basketball’s past, present, and future. In this new version, there’s a strong emphasis on authenticity. They’ve used authentic images from the world’s most famous basketball league directly in the animations.

NBA 2K24 offers special modes dedicated to Bryant, letting players experience and shine in the memorable moments of his career. There’s also the “My Team” feature, where you can create a team comprising basketball legends and today’s stars. And, of course, there are multiplayer matches that let you gather friends and rivals for exciting online showdowns.

The Crew Motorfest

Ubisoft, known for its big open-world adventures, is changing gears with The Crew Motorfest. Instead of crisscrossing the entire United States, this racing game focuses on a more compact journey. They’ve drawn inspiration from games like Forza Horizon, even if they haven’t explicitly said so. In this new season, you’ll be racing through stunning locations.

The Crew Motorfest brings us back to an open world, this time on the beautiful Hawaiian island of O’ahu. You’ll get to explore beaches, small towns, and forests while driving some of the fastest cars in the world. But that’s not all; you’ll also be able to hop on motorcycles, take control of monster trucks, speed across the water in racing boats, and even soar through the skies in planes. There will be various skill tests and exploration challenges to tackle.

The Crew Motorfest will be released on September 14th for PC, PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. For the first four days after its release, players can try the game for free, with up to five hours of gameplay in a trial offered by Ubisoft.

Mortal Kombat 1

The new game from Warner Bros. and Netherrealm Studios is a bit of a blast from the past for the Mortal Kombat franchise, but not so much in gameplay. It’s more about the story. Due to some time-travel shenanigans and an attempt to save the universe, the fighters find themselves back where it all began.

Liu Kang, who has become a god, tries to create a universe of his design, but things don’t go as planned. This sets the stage for Mortal Kombat 1, where Liu Kang gathers the main fighters from different realities to face familiar threats, including surprising and unusual appearances.

You can get your hands on Mortal Kombat 1 starting on September 19th, and it’s available for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.

Lies of P

This game started from a unique idea and has become one of the most anticipated games of the month. Thanks to the Pinocchio story being in the public domain, they could take the tale of the boy with the growing nose when he lies and turn it into a game in the popular Soulslike genre, which has gotten much attention.

Made by Neowiz, Lies of P brings the wooden puppet, who now looks more like a human, into a steampunk world. His hometown, Krat, is in chaos, and he’s on a quest to find his creator, Gepetto. He’ll use various weapons and his mechanical arm’s abilities to fight enemies and tackle challenges. The developers promise there are hundreds of different ways to combine attacks.

You can start playing Lies of P on September 19th, and it’s available for PC, PlayStation 5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One.

Payday 3

YouTube video

Announced as a surprise during what was supposed to be E3 2023, the long-awaited sequel to one of the most beloved shooters from previous years is here to win over a new generation of gamers. It’s coming just a few months after it was first revealed, and it’s been through a lot, including changes in ownership and market decisions, but it’s finally arriving.

Payday 3 is expected to pick up where the previous game left off. After a period of peace, the main characters’ attempt to leave their criminal life behind goes wrong, and they’re forced to reunite for new heists in New York City. As time passes, they’ll face new challenges like advanced security systems and digital funds that can’t be taken once a safe is cracked.

You can start playing Payday 3 on September 21st, and it will be available for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

EA Sports FC 24

YouTube video

The name has changed, but the game goes on. Electronic Arts is starting a new chapter for one of its oldest and most famous game series. They’ve ended their partnership with FIFA, lasting over 30 years. But don’t worry. They still have the licenses for thousands of players and hundreds of teams from all around the world.

EA Sports FC 24 has all the usual game modes, like the fun Ultimate Team and the street football-focused Volta. But this time, they’ve used artificial intelligence to make the animations for players and fans even more realistic. So, it’s promising to be the most lifelike football game yet.

You can start this new era on September 29th when EA Sports FC 24 launches. It’ll be available on PC, Xbox One, PS4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.
