The Wizarding World is officially coming back to our screens—with fresh faces.

Warner Bros. has made the first major casting announcement for its upcoming Harry Potter series on HBO, finally giving fans a glimpse at who’ll be walking the halls of Hogwarts in this rebooted adaptation.

The series is set to retell J.K. Rowling’s original books, with each season reportedly focusing on one novel—giving the story more time to breathe than ever before.

After months of speculation, we now know who’s taking on some of the most iconic roles in the wizarding world:

  • John Lithgow will step into the role of Albus Dumbledore
  • Paapa Essiedu is set to portray Severus Snape
  • Nick Frost will take on the beloved half-giant Hagrid
  • Luke Thallon joins as Professor Quirrell
  • Paul Whitehouse will appear as the cantankerous caretaker Argus Filch
  • Janet McTeer takes on the formidable Professor McGonagall

Francesca Gardiner, the series’ showrunner and executive producer, alongside director and executive producer Mark Mylod, shared their excitement in a statement:

“We are thrilled to welcome John, Janet, Paapa, Nick, Luke, and Paul to the cast. Their talent and passion for these characters are remarkable, and we can’t wait to see them bring new depth to these beloved roles.”

As for Harry, Ron, and Hermione? The trio hasn’t been cast publicly just yet, though open auditions were held last year, so it’s likely we’ll hear more soon.

With this exciting lineup already announced, it seems the magical reboot is finally starting to take shape. Stay tuned—more casting news is surely just around the corner.
