House of the Dragon: Why does Vhagar have holes in his wings?

Why does Vhagar have holes in his wings

The second season of “House of the Dragon” is now showing on Max. These eight new episodes dive deep into the “Dance of Dragons” – a big family fight between the Targaryens for who gets to sit on the Iron Throne.

The show has two main sides: the Greens (who support Rhaenyra) and the Blacks (who back Aegon II). While the Greens have more dragons, the Blacks have the biggest one alive. This massive dragon, named Vhagar, has caught viewers’ eyes because of the holes in its wings.

Vhagar belongs to Aemond Targaryen in the show. Before that, it was ridden by Lady Laena Velaryon. At 180 years old, Vhagar is the oldest dragon in Westeros during the show’s time.

This huge, bronze-scaled beast helped the Targaryens take over the Seven Kingdoms. It used to belong to Queen Visenya, who was both sister and wife to Aegon the Conqueror. Vhagar has been in many bloody battles, which might explain the holes in its wings.

In the new season’s first episode, soldiers quickly spot Vhagar flying over the Red Keep. They probably recognize it by its size or its unique wings.

Aemond’s dragon is the most battle-hardened creature alive, giving the Greens a big advantage even though the Blacks have more dragons. Last season, Vhagar even killed another dragon, Arrax, in one bite.

There are a few dragons that might be able to take on Vhagar. These include Meleys (the fastest dragon in Westeros), Caraxes (another battle-tough dragon), and three wild dragons without riders. But in a one-on-one fight, only Vermithor might be a real match for Vhagar. Vermithor used to belong to King Jaehaerys and is almost as big as Vhagar.
