Muzan Kibutsuji is the main antagonist in Kimetsu no Yaiba: Demon Slayer. Although his appearance has often been made fun of thanks to his resemblance to Michael Jackson, he is a very formidable foe to the entire Demon Slayers Corp.
Known as Gensho no Majin or Original Demon, Muzan was the first to become a demon. He’s responsible for turning Nezuko into a demon and creating every demon that has wreaked havoc on human life.
How did Muzan Kibutsuji become the Demon King?
Long ago, a doctor tried to save Muzan Kibutsuji from death in the Heian Period. Muzan was at that time diagnosed with a disease that would kill him before he was twenty.
Muzan has been given medicine from flowers Aoi Higanbanaor in English translation, and it is called “Blue Spider Lily.”
However, out of frustration and despair that the treatment would be futile and only cause more suffering, Muzan killed the doctor.
Shortly after, Muzan realized that the treatment had succeeded in prolonging his life, even at the cost of his humanity. Muzan regrets killing the doctor, as he finds that being a Devil keeps him from going outside during the day.
If exposed to sunlight again, Muzan will burn, and the only way to deal with the sunlight is to consume the doctor’s Blue Spider Lily medicine, which he had killed.
However, the Blue Spider Lily was nowhere to be found. Obsessed with being able to walk under the sun again and get rid of that weakness, Muzan has made it his goal in life to find the “Blue Spider Lily.”
He then created Satan with his blood. So that the Devils can help him find him, Muzan is the ancestor of all Devils and the strongest character in Kimetsu no Yaiba.
How are Devils Created in Kimetsu no Yaiba: Demon Slayer?
Devils are not born naturally, except by Muzan, the first devil born as a side effect of the Blue Spider Lily drug.
Most race members reproduce by turning humans through exposure to the blood of extremely powerful devils. Only Muzan and the Kizuki Twelve, Doma, and Kokushibo are shown to have this ability. Some people were immune to Devil’s blood, but they were rare.
Lady Tamayo is also capable of turning humans into devils. However, through science rather than sharing blood, this method is not as efficient as it takes two hundred years to develop and is practiced only once. Yushiro was also able to demonize Chachamaru through unknown means.
It should be noted that their creation is not mystical but a biological process, indicating Muzan’s blood and the Blue Spider Lily drug have mutagenic properties.
As proven by Muzan Kibutsuji pouring blood on ordinary people, this process is carried out at the cellular level, when if the mutation is too drastic, the victim’s cells, unable to endure it, will simply destroy themselves to ashes.
