Kevin Feige has finally given an update on what the Avengers are up to in the MCU, but his statement might be raising more questions than answers.
Shoutout to The Direct’s Sam Hargrave for the original source!
Leading up to Captain America: Brave New World, fans have been wondering—where are the Avengers? The team has been noticeably absent, and with key members like Iron Man and Black Widow gone, Steve Rogers potentially on the moon, Carol Danvers off-world, Scarlet Witch missing, and the world seemingly forgetting who Spider-Man is, the roster is looking pretty thin.
So, why haven’t they shown up in any of the trailers? Feige addressed this in an official press release for the film:
“In ‘Captain America: Brave New World,’ Sam Wilson is Captain America, and he has made the decision to unabashedly become Captain America. But what does it mean to be Captain America when you’re not a super soldier, which we definitively know Sam Wilson is not, and in a world where the Avengers are not currently active?”
That last part confirms that the Avengers aren’t currently active, which suggests they’ve effectively disbanded. While some heroes like Hulk, Ant-Man, Hawkeye, and Thor are still around, they seem to be occupied with their own lives—Hulk, for example, is busy raising his son (and who even knows what’s happening with Bruce Banner these days?).
So, who’s actually going to be on the team by the time Avengers: Doomsday arrives? Sam Wilson is a definite, and Hulk and Captain Marvel will likely return, but beyond that, it’s anyone’s guess. Maybe Thunderbolts will give us some hints when it drops in May, or perhaps Avengers: Doomsday itself will spend some time reassembling Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
Personally, I just hope Ant-Man shows up again—he always seems to shine the most outside of his own movies.
