A reporter recently pressed Nintendo’s Senior VP of Product Development about the possibility of one very specific Legend of Zelda title making its way to the Nintendo Switch 2 — and the response might give fans a reason to hope.

Shoutout to Chris Scullion at Video Games Chronicle for the original scoop!

Good News:

Yes, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker is coming to the Switch 2.

Not-So-Great News:

It’s the original GameCube version, not the enhanced HD remaster that launched on the Wii U.

Thankfully, there may still be hope. On a recent episode of the Kinda Funny Games Daily podcast, Tim Gettys shared that he had a direct conversation with Nate Bihldorff, Nintendo of America’s SVP of Product Development, and brought up this very topic.

“I got to sit down with Nate and ask a ton of questions — and in typical Nintendo style, we didn’t get a lot of clear answers,” Gettys said.

But he did get one particularly encouraging quote. When asked if releasing the Wind Waker via Nintendo Switch Online would prevent a future port of the HD version to the Switch 2, Nate was quick to respond:

“No, all options are on the table.”

This is especially exciting news for those who never owned a Wii U, as Wind Waker HD was exclusive to that console. Even now, the HD version sells for around £40 second-hand, and if you factor in the cost of a used Wii U, you’re easily looking at £120 or more.

Here’s hoping this idea makes its way up the ranks at Nintendo HQ. A Wind Waker HD port on that crisp, high-refresh screen of the Switch 2? Yes, please.
