PS5 Pro Leaked Specs: Massive Performance Upgrades Revealed

Like the recently released slimmer PS5 model, the rumor is that the upcoming PS5 Pro will also allow you to detach the disc drive if needed. It has a larger 1TB solid-state drive (SSD) for storing games and apps.

The initial report regarding Sony’s specifications was first brought to light on YouTube by Moore’s Law is Dead. These specifications were claimed to originate from Sony’s internal developer network, which is accessible to various partners.

According to the leaked specs circulating online, here are the key upgrades the PS5 Pro may offer:

  • Memory speed boosted by 28% to 576 GB/s
  • CPU can run 10% faster at 3.85GHz in a unique high-performance mode
  • GPU performance reaching 33.5 teraflops

However, you can’t directly compare the PS5 Pro’s GPU power to the original PS5’s 10.28 teraflops since they use different chip architectures from AMD. However, rough estimates suggest the Pro could deliver around 45% more graphics muscle.

The leaked info also mentions the PS5 Pro GPU will have special upscaling tech to enhance image quality and dedicated AI and machine learning hardware for improved performance.

While Sony hasn’t officially announced the PS5 Pro yet, many expect this souped-up model is on the way. Just last month, a CNBC report quoted a Tokyo game analyst saying there’s “broad consensus” that Sony will launch the PS5 Pro in the second half of 2024.

Rumors about a PS5 Pro have been swirling since last summer, which the experts at Digital Foundry analyzed back then.

On the Xbox side, Microsoft has confirmed that new Xbox console hardware will be available later this year. But there’s no word whether it will improve performance over the current Xbox Series X and S models. Speaking to Eurogamer, Xbox boss Phil Spencer previously noted that frequently changing hardware specs creates “a ton of complexity” that used to be avoided.
