“The Acolyte,” the new Star Wars series on Disney+, has kicked off with impressive numbers. Despite facing a reactionary boycott campaign, the series has garnered significant viewership, with its first two episodes becoming the platform’s most-watched premiere of the year.
According to Disney+, “The Acolyte” achieved 4.8 million views on its first day, making it the company’s best premiere in 2024. This data release indicates the studio’s strong confidence in the project created by Leslye Headland.
It’s noteworthy that Disney+ rarely shares viewing statistics for its series and movies, especially first-day numbers. For instance, last year, Disney+ announced that “Ahsoka” reached 14 million views in five days, and “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” achieved 13.3 million views in its first six days. “The Acolyte” appears poised to surpass these figures, potentially setting new records over the weekend.
The Star Wars series will continue its run over the next six weeks, concluding on July 17 (July 16 at night in Latin America) with its eighth episode. To boost viewership further, Lucasfilm will broadcast the first episode of “The Acolyte” on Friday, June 7.
“The Acolyte” features Amandla Stenberg as twins Osha and Mae, Lee Jung-Jae as Master Sun, Carrie Anne-Moss as Master Indara, Joonas Suotamo as the Wookie Jedi Kelnacca, Rebecca Henderson as Master Vernestra ‘Vern’ Rwoh, Charlie Barnett as the Jedi Yord, Jodie Turner-Smith as Mother Aniseya, Dafne Keen as Padawan Jecki, and Manny Jacinto as Quimir.
Set in the High Republic era, one hundred years before the Skywalker Saga, “The Acolyte” is a thriller exploring a series of mysterious murders of Jedi Order members at the height of their power. The story will continue with the third episode, which premieres on Disney+ on Wednesday, June 12 (the night of Tuesday, June 11 in Latin America).
