The anime revolves around teenage girls using machines attached to their legs to perform aerial battles. The OVA trailer episode premiered on January 1, 2007. The televised anime show afterward aired between July and September 2008.

The second season was aired between July and September 2010. A film adaptation was released on March 17, 2012, and a three-part OVA series premiered between September 2014 and May 2015—a third-year aired from October to December 2020. A spin-off of this first show, branded Brave Witches, beamed from October into December 2016, plus another spin-off, branded Luminous Witches, will be scheduled to broadcast in 2021.
