Hey there, House of the Dragon fans! Let’s chat about the wild start to season two. Buckle up because this contains some major spoilers!
Remember the Dance of Dragons from the books? The show just kicked off with a bang, showing us one of the big events that started it all. We’re talking about the Blood and Cheese incident – and trust me, it’s as intense as it sounds.
So, Daemon is super mad about what happened to Lucerys. You know, when Aemond and his massive dragon Vhagar took out the poor kid and his dragon Arrax. Daemon wants payback, big time.
He hires two shady characters – an ex-guard and a rat catcher. Their job? Sneak into the castle and take out Aemond. But things don’t go as planned.
Instead of finding Aemond, these guys (now known as Blood and Cheese) run into Queen Helena and her kids. What happens next is pretty horrifying. They make the queen choose which of her sons will die. Can you imagine? Poor Helaena points to little Jaehaerys, and… well, let’s just say it doesn’t end well for the little prince.
Now, the show toned this down from George R.R. Martin’s book “Fire and Blood”. But it’s still pretty shocking, right?
The big question now is: what will happen to Blood and Cheese? Looks like we’ll have to keep watching to find out! This whole mess is a massive deal for the story. It’s one of those moments that kicks off all the chaos that’s coming. It’s exciting for us viewers, but not a good time to be in Westeros!
Escape, Torture And Confession
So, what happened after that awful scene in the castle? Well, believe it or not, Blood and Cheese kept their word. They didn’t hurt Queen Helaena or her other kids. They just grabbed the prince’s head and ran off. Pretty messed up, right?
Now, you’d think the palace guards would catch them immediately, but nope! It turns out that Cheese knew all sorts of secret passages. They managed to slip away like ghosts.
But here’s the thing – their freedom didn’t last long. Just two days later, they caught Blood at the city gates. He was trying to leave King’s Landing with the poor prince’s head hidden in his horse’s saddle. Yikes!
When they caught him, they didn’t go easy on him. After some nasty torture, Blood spilled the beans. He admitted he was planning to take the head to Harrenhal to get his reward from Prince Daemon.
In the book, there’s a bit about a mysterious woman who hired them – some foreign lady they called “Misery”. But heads up, TV fans – the show’s doing things differently. In House of the Dragon, it’s Daemon himself who hires these guys.
After thirteen brutal days, they finally let Blood die. And Queen Alicent? She was so angry, she wanted to find out Blood’s real name so she could go after his family. It’s pretty dark, though we’re unsure if she did it.
It’s a grim tale, but that’s Westeros for you!
Miscellaneous Luck
Let’s break this down in a more casual, easy-to-understand way:
So, what about Cheese, the rat catcher guy? Well, he got lucky. While Blood got caught, Cheese managed to slip away. The city guards turned King’s Landing upside down, looking for him. They even searched every brothel on Silk Street, but no dice. Cheese and someone called the White Worm were nowhere to be found.
King Aegon II was furious. He wanted the killer of his heir found so badly that he ordered all the rat catchers in the city to be arrested and hanged. Talk about overkill! And yeah, they did it. After that, Ser Otto Hightower had to bring in a hundred cats to deal with the rat problem.
But the real tragedy here is what happened to Queen Helaena. The poor woman was utterly broken by what she’d been forced to do. She stopped eating, stopped bathing, and wouldn’t leave her room. The worst part? She couldn’t even look at her other son, Maelor. She felt so guilty for choosing him to live instead of Jaehaerys.
King Aegon II didn’t know what to do. Ultimately, he had to take Maelor away from Helaena and give him to his grandmother, Queen Alicent, to raise.
This whole mess totally wrecked Aegon and Helaena’s marriage. It wasn’t great to begin with, but after this? They ended up sleeping in separate rooms. Helaena spiraled into madness, while Aegon just got angrier and drank more.
It’s a pretty grim picture, right? Just goes to show how one terrible event can have such far-reaching consequences. That’s Game of Thrones for you – nobody gets out unscathed.
