What Year do Deadpool and Wolverine fit into the MCU timeline?

“Deadpool and Wolverine,” the much-anticipated film bringing together Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, is set to hit theaters on July 25. Despite the buzz and numerous rumors, Marvel Studios has been very secretive about the film’s details. However, some exciting new plot information has just been revealed.

The latest issue of Total Film features Reynolds and Jackman on the cover and discloses that the story takes place six years after the events of “Deadpool 2.” This places the film’s timeline in 2024, based on Deadpool’s previous movies.

It seems that Deadpool’s timeline, along with that of the X-Men and other mutants, runs parallel to the main Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) timeline, suggesting it’s set in a parallel universe. The film is expected to be a multiversal adventure, similar to “Spider-Man: No Way Home” and “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.” It will be interesting to see how Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios integrate these characters into the MCU.

The details about the upcoming film don’t stop there. The British magazine Total Film reveals more about the plot. In the movie, Deadpool, also known as the Merc with a Mouth, struggles with his new life. He’s working as a terrible car salesman, trying to pay rent by selling Blind Al’s (Leslie Uggams) blood pressure medication. To make matters worse, his beloved Vanessa now has a new boyfriend.

The latest information has certainly stirred up excitement among fans of Marvel’s House of Ideas. As of now, the identity of Vanessa’s new romantic partner remains a mystery. This revelation is sure to upset Deadpool, especially after he went through the trouble of traveling back in time to save Vanessa in the post-credits scene of the second movie.

In an interview with Comicbookmovie.com last December, Morena Baccarin, who plays Vanessa, confirmed that she had already finished filming her scenes. “I think the film is back on track after the strike. And I think it will be pretty good! Yes, I think fans are in for a fun surprise,” she said.

Baccarin’s character still has a lot of potential, as she hasn’t yet been portrayed as Copycat, the mutant with replicating powers who, like Deadpool, first appeared in issue #98 of The New Mutants, published in 1991. Regarding the possible transformation into Copycat, Baccarin mentioned, “I think so! But I also think it’s competing with a very large universe.”

For now, we’ll have to wait for more details about the movie directed by Shawn Levy, who co-writes the screenplay with Ryan Reynolds, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and Zeb Wells. The cast includes Matthew Macfadyen as Paradox, Stefan Kapicic as Colossus, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, and Shioli Kutsuna as Yukio.

There are also rumors that Jennifer Garner might reprise her role as Elektra and that singer Taylor Swift could play Dazzler or a female version of Deadpool, Lady Deadpool. Other rumored appearances include Wesley Snipes, Famke Janssen, Ian McKellen, Channing Tatum, and Blake Lively. This highly anticipated Marvel Studios film is set to hit theaters on July 25.
